Project history: These were the most successful of the French trial boats, and were typical Thornycroft products.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: By the 1880s they were being used for instruction. No.6 was stricken in May 1888 but was renamed Lupin and employed on Rochefort's underwater defences until 1890.
