Project history: Slightly smaller editions of the 'Brave' class, ordered in 1968 to serve as targets. The design permits installation of a third Proteus turbine and a light armament of missiles or guns if needed for the operational role, but they proved extremely useful simulating attacks by fast missile craft.
Modernizations: None.
Naval service: In 1979 Scimitar was sent to Hong Kong, and in July 1980 Sabre lost her bow in a collision with a breakwater at Alderney. They were placed in storage ashore in 1981.
